Costa Rica

Luis Melendez

Costa Rica is a beautiful country, full of friendly people with a population of about 4.9 million, the official language is Spanish. Costa Rica is well known for producing good coffee, to the point that some will say that Juan Valdez gets there his coffee! This country is located in Central America; border of Nicaragua to the north and Panama to the south. Catholicism is the predominant religion; according to Wikipedia about 76% of the Costa Rican population is Catholic. This beautiful country is in need of the truth.

Change the World of Young People

Jordon Crow with his Youth Group

Recently, we asked Jordon Crow about how well his training at Sunset prepared him to work with teens.  Jordon and his wife Emily both went through AIM and graduated from Sunset with an emphasis in Youth and Family Ministry in 2013.  He currently serves in Blackwell, Oklahoma.

Her smile is but a reflection of her kind and generous heart.  Born in Kenya, Rosemary Odhiambo made her way with her small children to Greece from her home in Kenya.  Her plan was to join her husband and begin a new life.  Four years had passed since her husband left Kenya to Greece in search of work and a means to provide for his family.  However, their plans and dreams were interrupted.  Within a few weeks of her arrival, her husband passed away leaving her alone with her children in a strange country.  Rosemary did not give up, but instead decided to pursue her dream.  She found work doing laundry, as a nanny or housekeeping, whatever she could to take care of her children and stay in Athens.

Phase III Complete!!

Two years of fund-raising are complete, and 3,000 solar players have been delivered. Thank you to every one of you who made this the largest phase yet in the Solar Mission to Send the Light. Dozens of trips have been made throughout Central & South America and to Spanish-speaking islands in the Caribbean to help the Spanish-speaking churches to grow through their evangelism and their depth of Bible study. Thousands of your brothers and sisters in Christ have been encouraged and emboldened to spread the Kingdom of God with the assistance they now have from the Solar Players.

20th Anniversary of the Ukrainian Bible Insitute

The 20th Anniversary of Ukrainian Bible Institute

Twenty years have passed since Sunset International Bible Institute was invited to partner with others to meet the urgent need for quality ministry training and Bible study in the former Soviet nation of Ukraine.  The fall of the Berlin wall was monumental and ushered in a new era of openness and freedom for the satellite nations of the U.S.S.R.   Many nations began to declare their independence from Russia and the desire for freedom.   In the west, Christians realized that a door had opened and many new opportunities lie ahead.  The gospel message, once forbidden in the Soviet Union, touched the hearts of the Ukrainian people and the response was an unexpected surprise as hundreds came to know Jesus Christ as their savior.

Luis recently returned to the United States from serving as a missionary in Costa Rica. Brandi currently serves as SIBI’s Dean of International Studies for Asia.
