Minister (Full Time or Part Time)

Valliant Church of Christ

The Valliant Church of Christ is searching for a Minister. We are open to both full time and part time employment. The congregation in Valliant has a Sunday attendance of approximately 60. The town of Valliant has a population of approximately 750 and lies in beautiful Southeast Oklahoma.

Our current minister, who has been here 16 years, is moving so his wife can accept a promotion and pursue a great opportunity to serve the underserved.

The minister at Valliant will work with church leadership to:
1) nurture the spiritual development of Valliant's church family through love, prayer, service, example, Biblical teaching, encouragement, and the development of spiritual relationships;
2) promote an emphasis for growing the kingdom through local and remote evangelistic efforts; and
3) foster an attitude of love and service to the surrounding community, including reaching out to the impoverished and disenfranchised.

Responsibilities include:
1) Oversight, coordination, and planning for Sunday morning and Sunday evening worship services to ensure all is done orderly, in truth, in spirit, and to God’s glory;
2) Preparation and delivery of Biblical sermons on Sunday mornings and evenings, and at other times as set by church leadership;
3) Coordinate teaching of an adult Bible class on Wednesday nights;
4) Substitute teaching of adult Bible classes on Sunday mornings as necessary;
5) Occasional teaching of children’s classes and Women’s monthly fellowships;
6) Conducting funerals and weddings as requested;
7) Hospital and shut-in visitation, with participation and assistance from the congregation;
8) Address benevolence requests, with assistance from church leadership;
9) Participate in monthly business meetings;
10) Work with church leadership to equip and inspire the Valliant family to take increasing responsibility for, and ownership of, various aspects of this job description as the congregation grows and matures over time.

LOCATION
The O’Fallon church of Christ (OCOC) is a loving and sound congregation of God’s family,
located in O’Fallon, MO, 35 miles west of downtown St. Louis on I-70. Sunday attendance
averages 135-155. We have three elders, five deacons, and two part-time office managers.
The O’Fallon church actively strives to share the gospel of Jesus Christ. We are actively
involved in international missions and local ministries.

JOB DESCRIPTION
The minister will serve, lead, teach, mentor, and motivate the families of the O’Fallon
church of Christ (OCOC) in their walk with God. The minister acknowledges that developing
personal, Christ-centered relationships with the families of OCOC is critical to the role of
effective ministry. It is expected that the minister will spend the majority of his time developing
spiritual, mentor-type relationships. Although serving as pulpit minister, this individual
must be able to relate to all age groups, including children and teens. The position is a salaried
position and requires flexibility in hours, days of week and location.

TEACHER: The minister is expected to prepare and preach Scripture-based, relevant sermons
each week, as well as organize, prepare, and execute formal and informal bible classes
and activities that are designed to help our families grow spiritually.

MINISTER: The minister will serve as a spiritual mentor and Christian example for families.
He will demonstrate a passion for spiritual growth and an ability to build lasting relationships
with the families of OCOC. The minister should have a passion for the unchurched
– leading and encouraging the families to go and make disciples for Christ. The
minister should observe and gain practical experience in counseling families as situations
present themselves.

ADMINISTRATION: The minister will function as an integral part of the leadership
team. He will work closely with the elders to chart the strategic direction of the congregation,
set and achieve goals, and evaluate ministry system functions and activities for
effectiveness and synergy with the overall mission of the church. He will coordinate with
and support the worship team for the worship services. He will actively support OCOC
activities.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required qualifications include a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Bible and demonstrated
excellent oral and written communication skills. Candidates must relate well to
people of all ages and have a Christ-like heart for the hurting and the lost. The ideal candidate
has a strong Christian marriage.

Pulpit Minister

New Road Church of Christ

1) Education
a) The successful candidate will have a degree with a major or heavy emphasis on Biblical Studies from an approved Bible Institute or College.
2) Religious Affiliation
a) Candidates for employment must be a member in good standing of a local congregation of a church of Christ.
3) Doctrinal Positions
a) Candidates for employment must sign a statement affirming their agreement with and support of worship, teaching, and behavior practices defined in the Articles of Incorporation of the New Road Southwest Church of Christ, Inc.
i) Annual affirmation of agreement and support is required.
ii) A doctrinal questionnaire will be presented to candidates prior to the beginning of the interview process.
4) Required Policies
a) Sexual Misconduct – attend annual training sessions and comply with the requirements of the Sexual Misconduct Policy of the New Road Church of Christ.
5) Work Ethic
a) Professional employees of the New Road Church of Christ are required to work diligently and with focus on their duties for a minimum average of 40 hours per week.
i) This minimum average does NOT include Sunday and Wednesday worship assemblies or Bible classes or any voluntary activities.
(1) To explain further, members of the congregation may work 40 or more hours per week on their job, but they willingly and voluntarily attend worship assemblies and Bible classes and volunteer their time for church activities including teaching a Bible class.
b) A posting of office hours will be required with a minimum of 12 hours per week in office.
6) Primary Duties
a) Prepare and deliver sermons on Sunday morning and evening each week.
b) Teach Bible classes on Sunday morning and Wednesday evening each week.
c) Emphasize the distinctive nature of the Church, and guide Christians to not only believe but also be able to give an answer to anyone about what we teach and practice.
d) Motivate Christians to be involved in works of service and evangelism – be a sparkplug of enthusiasm.
e) Visit:
i) Visit members in their homes to encourage to love and good works.
ii) Visit members who require special attention whether due to illness, bereavement, incapacitation, or discouragement.
iii) Greet those who visit our assemblies and visit with them in their homes.
iv) Participate with the elders regularly in making visits
f) Meet with the elders regularly at times prescribed by the elders to pray for individuals and to form strategies for effectiveness.
g) Provide counseling or direct anyone in need to appropriate professional resources to help in time of need.
7) Other Duties
a) Cooperation with other ministers, staff, and elders is required.
8) Spiritual Development
a) Read the Bible and pray every day.
b) Maintain a lifestyle that will be exemplary to all.
c) Present needs or opportunities for professional spiritual development to the elders for approval.
