A New Involvement in Australia

Sunset International Bible Institute has signed an historic agreement with Macquarie School of Biblical Studies in Sydney, Australia to assume management of the school in January, 2007. Under the agreement, MSOBS will work toward Associate status during the next five years. Schools begin their relationship with SIBI as Applicant schools and progress toward Branch status and then, when they become self-sufficient, Associate schools. SIBI Applicant, Branch and Associate schools now number in excess of 30 on five continents. In the 10 years of the International Studies Division's existence, 1500 students have received training at one of these schools.

MSOBS, under the oversight of the Macquarie church of Christ, has trained men and women in Australia for thirty years but needed and wanted revitalization. The new staff will be extremely helpful in this process. Sunset will provide curriculum, teachers as needed, financial resources, and guidance. Macquarie already possesses a fine library and will continue to provide facilities. Ted Paull, the present director, will move into the role of Academic Dean, Craig Peters ('87) will serve as Administrative Dean and Jeremy Desjarlais ('05) will serve as Dean of Students.

The International Studies Division of SIBI has a vision of training able spokespersons of the Word in their own country, their own language, their own culture, their own standard of living and their own environment. Not only is this 10 times more cost effective but also discourages long-term dependence upon foreign support. Students are encouraged to stay and serve in their own country. Such schools utilize local talent and resources and increase local evangelism and church planting. It is, by far, the most efficient and effective strategy for fulfilling Christ's Great Commission.
